I have been drawn to the stage from a very early age and my life has consistantly navigated towards the theatre. Having studied everything from acting and directing to writing and video editing, I have settled upon working within the community sector. At present I am directing a play entitled "It's A Matter Of Intere$t" by Linda Scotson for the 2011 Penicuik and District Arts Festival which is running from 3rd to 11th September this year. In my previous role as Drama Facilitator for the Edinburgh Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (EWRASAC) I designed a Forum Theatre programme for women who have been subjected to gender based violence, rape and sexual abuse. The aim of this programme was to enable survivors a safe environment where they may be able to explore their emotions with a view to overcoming whatever they felt was blocking them at that particular point in thier lives. This programme ran exceptionally well and the idea has recently been taken up by the youths at Shakti Womens Aid, much to my delight. My aim over the next year or two is to establish roots within Edinburgh West with the hope of running various community drama workshops surrounding the current issues of local neighbourhoods.
Over the years I have trained in community theatre, acting, stage management, movement, voice and film at Edinburgh's Telford College and Coatbridge College, Glasgow. I have performed in such plays as "Closer" by Partick Marber (Edinburgh Festival 2008), "The Trojen Women" by Euripidies (Ian Bannen Theatre 2005), "The Three Sisters" by Anton Chekhov and "Yerma" by Frederico Garcia Lorca to name but a few!
In light of the recent crisis in Japan, I have become involved in an Edinburgh based event entitled "Cheer Up Japan Festival" which takes place on Saturday 27th August 2011 at St Thomas of Aquin't RC High School between the hours of 09:30 and 18:00. Prior to this event I shall be running a theatrical workshop at Tollcross Community Centre, Fountainbridge Edinburgh for anyone who has been affected by Japan's loss or for those who have an interest in the topic and wish to become involved in helping raise funds for those who have lost everything int the disasters. Should you wish to attend the workshop, it shall be held on Saturday 20th August 2011 between the hours of 11am and 3pm with a half hour for lunch which shan't be provided so please feel free to bring bottled water and something to eat for during the break.
